- Collier Red Cross Calls Out for Volunteers

July 6, 2010 (Naples, FL) – Officials of Collier County’s Red Cross Chapter are concerned about a shortage of available volunteers to staff hurricane shelters should they be needed this summer.  Andy Jerant , Collier Red Cross Service Delivery Director, said , “We haven’t had a serious storm threat since Hurricane Wilma in 2005, so volunteers tend to drift away to other avenues of service”.

Collier County residents are urged to participate in one of the short explanations of duties for shelter volunteers, so they will be ready when severe weather threatens our area.

Former Red Cross volunteers who may have assisted in shelter work in previous years are encouraged to attend one of our scheduled sessions to review shelter procedures and updated policies.

There is no charge for these sessions. Volunteers from any part of the county may attend any scheduled session.
